Another Southern Conference playoff appearance is all but a sure thing for Brave SC this summer. All the Buffalo (8-1-2) have to do to reach a sixth consecutive postseason is avoid losing by an absurd 23 goals Friday night against Inter Gainesville KF (3-7-1).

However, simply making the playoffs isn’t enough for the club with more division titles than any other in the Southeast. With a win, the Buffalo can clinch their second division championship in a row and fifth overall.

The loss to Nona FC (9-1-2) on July 3 was a setback, in that it eliminated the Buffalo’s points advantage on the table and erased the head-to-head tie-breaker with the season series split. However, they took care of business with high-scoring games against most of the division to post a +28 goal differential, the third-highest mark in all of USL League Two and six goals better than Nona’s mark after the Longhorns wrapped up their regular season Tuesday at Brevard SC.

With that in mind, any victory Friday night would put Brave back atop the southeast.

In their first matchup with Gainesville on June 22, the Buffalo won 3-0, but scored two goals directly off of turnovers. They’ll be unlikely to receive such gifts this time around, but they’ll also be playing at home, where they average nearly four goals per game and have conceded just two all season.

Brave SC and Inter Gainesville KF will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at The Range at The Villages Charter Middle School.
