The Villages SC 2–2 IMG Academy**
The last match of the regular season, and a point was all we needed.
We are Southeast Division Champions.
— Diogo Pereira, from the penalty spot. 1–0.
18' — Augusto Maciel. 2–0.
IMG came back to level it, and the match finished 2–2.
It did not matter. The point was enough.
Division champions in the first year this club has had a senior team.
In January there was no squad. In April they met each other for the first time on field three at the Polo Grounds. In May they beat a professional club in South Carolina on penalties. In July they are champions of the Southeast.
And one of them is a local high schooler.
Uziel Hernandez came through The Villages Charter School and onto this roster in the club's first season. A homegrown player in a division-winning squad, in year one.
Thank you to every one of you who filled those seats from day one.
We now wait on a playoff opponent.
