Oh, what a night!

It's hard to imagine a more perfect home opener! We beat Brevard SC 5-0 for our first win of the season Saturday night and it was worth the wait. That's a game that will go down as one of the most exciting in our club's history and it's safe to say we're now pumped up for the rest of the season!

Matheus Ferreira gave us a quick start.

While we had to wait for our first goal in the first two matches, Matheus wasted no time in getting us on the board. He scored from distance in the 12th minute to put the Buffalo ahead. He also assisted on our second goal with a great cross to Alvaro Carrera. Matheus has been in the middle of a lot of big plays this season and he's quickly showing why he is one of the most respected players on the team.

Fabio's golazo had the fans on their feet.

The highlight of the night had to be Fabio Rodrigues' first goal as a Buffalo. He pulled off a shot that will likely be one of the best in all of USL League Two this season with a bicycle kick to put us ahead 3-0 in the 58th minute. You can watch the video here! Ten minutes later, he completed a brace with a second goal, finding the right corner of the net with a long roller. Nico Diaz finished off the barrage of scoring with a free kick goal (his second tally of the season) in stoppage time to give the crowd one last hurrah.

Of course, YOU made the night special.

Saturday's match wouldn't have been nearly as memorable if it weren't for all of the fans who came out to welcome us home. It meant a lot to us to see so many familiar faces, as well as plenty of new ones, and the boys were inspired to play for the home crowd.

Here's what head coach Anderson DaSilvahad to say after the game:

"I told the guys that we not only needed to win but we needed a good win. We needed to put a statement out there that this is Brave. We’re back. We’re the division champions, so we’ve got to play like it. I would be happy if we had a 3-0, but the fact that we got five is even better. Now we have a week to rest, do a proper recovery, and work even harder in practice, especially on finishing."

Man of the Match: Fabio Rodrigues

Naturally, Fabinho earned Man of the Match honors for his heroic performance. Here's what he had to say about the team's terrific night:

"I think it pushes us more. We won, we can enjoy it today and tomorrow, but, on Monday, it’s a clean slate and we’re ready to roll. I think that this win is important to join us as a team and, even though it’s slowly building, eventually, we’re going to see the big picture and I think today was a great example of that. It pushes us to be even better in the coming games."

We have another home match coming soon!

Brave SC will be back in action this Saturday night in a rematch with Brooke House FC and the Buffalo are extra motivated to prove that they have what it takes to earn the full three points from the Lions. We hope you'll be in the stands to cheer us on again — same Buffalo time, same Buffalo place!

Go Buffalo!
