Important win!
This past Wednesday we won one of the most important games of the season. After a draw at our home field on June 5th, we played SIMA Aguilas but this time at their home field. The players and staff had been very frustrated as they felt we should have won the first game. The team played smart as the game grew aggressive. Our players were very vocal calling on each other to do better and play hard from the first minutes to the very end.
After a tackle inside the box by a SIMA player, a penalty kick was called in our favor. Leonardo Paiva took the opportunity and scored at the 32nd minute. For the rest of the game, both teams had their chances. At stoppage time, with our fans waiting anxiously for the referee to blow the final whistle it happened, the second goal (also by Paiva), which solidified the win. The staff and players felt vindicated.
As Coach Anderson had been saying "we need to do our part so we don't depend on them to slip up. We have to do what we can to win on our terms."
Fun fact
During the first game versus SIMA, the referees called back 2 of our goals because of offsides. Both goals were from Paiva. After watching the footage the team felt that those were bad calls. Before this game, a staff member wrote on the whiteboard in the locker room "Don't worry Paiva, tonight you will get your 2goals back" and he did! Exactly those 2 that were taken... After the game, the players remembered the message and got a kick out of it.
Tomorrow
As the race for the Southeast Division rages on every game counts. As a matter of fact, every goal counts. We have 1 less game than the top 2 teams. Winning tomorrow's game would give us the same number of points. From there the league would look into goal differential. Come and cheer on the Buffalo as they continue to fight for the top spot.
