Brevard SC 0–3 The Villages SC
A clean sheet, three goals, and the top of the table.
We set up in a 4-3-3 — Mathias Tempo in goal, a back four of Witter, Andrade, Lauro and Muench, a midfield of Pedro Santos, Viega and Ferreira, and Butler, Rosano and Mauro up front.
Oscar Rosano opened it in the 39th minute, getting the smallest touch on the ball to redirect it past Noah Hawkins. By that point we had six shots and three on target, and Brevard were already down to ten men after a red card for Kavan Reginae.
One nil at the break, and Brevard reshaping to try to hold us.
Mauro got the second early in the second half — a through ball on the far side, driving at Niles Lockridge one-on-one, and a finish.
And the third was the best of them. Witter flicked it on with his left foot to keep the move onside, and then it went Witter to Butler to Ferreira to Pedro Santos, worked through tight spaces inside the box until somebody had a clear sight of goal. The broadcast called it a great little passing play. It was better than that.
3–0.
Brevard had one real sight of goal all night — their only shot on target, from a long throw, and Tempo dealt with it.
We came into this at the top of the table on points per match, having beaten Tampa Bay United 1–0 in our only previous outing. We leave it having doubled our win total, kept a second clean sheet in two, and scored three away from home.
Man of the match, Lucas Mauro, was focused from the first minute to the last. He kept encouraging his teammates to switch the play quickly to create more chances to score.
Even after 3 goals he pushed as if we needed another goal for the win. You wouldn't know it by watching him that it was the final minutes of the game. He kept pushing, passing, and asking for the ball as if it was the very beginning.
He also scored a very nice goal by dribbling Brevard's defender and placing the ball on the opposite side of their goalkeeper.
