What each of them was after
Anderson needed to challenge his squad and work out which combinations give him a starting eleven for the first match of the season. You do not learn that in training. You learn it when somebody is genuinely trying to take the ball off you.
Yago had a team that wanted to prove something. And the players on his side had the clearest motivation on the field: play well enough today and you get invited up.
