There is not a great deal to add to those two lines, but we will try.
Forty-five minutes into a home match at the Polo Grounds we were four goals down to a side we had beaten 7–0 at their place three weeks earlier. The match was gone. Everybody in that ground knew it was gone.
Then we scored five.
Five goals in forty-five minutes, against a team defending a four-goal lead and with every reason to sit on it.
5–5.
One of those games you will never forget.
Nobody who was at the Polo Club that evening has stopped talking about it since, and nobody should.
Five goals also puts us within three of the record. Two matches left, and forty-one on the board.
