Man of the Match | Rian Barrett

Game: Nona FC vs Brave SC June 3, 2026

Rian was one of the most dynamic players on the field. His speed constantly put pressure on the opposition, and his work rate was outstanding from start to finish. Rian was confident in 1v1 situations, taking on defenders and creating dangerous attacking opportunities. His willingness to dribble helped break down the opposition's defense and opened up space for his teammates and he scored the goal to tied the game.

He went to The Standard for Coffee and Questions. Drink of choice: espresso.

My name is Rian Barrett, from Boston, MA. I played for Rollins College in Orlando and spent about 3 years abroad in Spain and Finland.

How did you come to play for us?
I knew Brave SC was a great team and being close to Orlando meant I’d be around family and friends. While playing abroad, I met former Brave SC player Robertinho, who called Anderson and got me here.

What has stood out about your experience here so far?
How much of a family it is. They take care of us with housing, food, laundry, and the training we have. It's everything you need to be your best. Also at our first home game seeing the setup, seeing how much the community cares, the kids care. I think it's a special place to be and I'm thankful to be a part of it.

How has your interaction been with the fans?
They were super nice. Even without the result we wanted, people came up for photos and said they liked how we played. We dedicate ourselves in training to bring a good product, and that support gives us extra motivation.

How do you describe your playing style?
I train a lot on 1v1s and use my physical attributes, like quick bursts and acceleration, to my advantage. I always try to play with the highest intensity possible.

Tell us about the match that you were named Man of the Match.
It was a competitive game. I was in a good battle with their center back, and since a lot of my previous teammates played for them, I had a bit of extra motivation to do well.

What do you think about the season so far?
Overall, it’s a good start. The schedule was tough this past week with three games in 7 days, so hopefully with a bit more rest we can put on even better performances.

Is there a player you looked up to growing up?
Ronaldinho was always my inspiration. In terms of playing style, I wouldn't say I play like him, but the joy and passion he brought to the game inspires me.

Who do you think will win the FIFA World Cup?
Spain.

Do you have a message to the fans ahead of the next match?
I hope you bring the energy again because we feel your presence, and we hope to give that gift right back to you.
