The longest first half in history

Brave SC v Brooke House FC

On the fourteenth of June we were 1–0 up after twenty-four and a half minutes when the weather stopped the match.

On the twelfth of July we picked it up exactly where it left off, from a goal kick, with the score and the clock carried over. As the commentary put it: "Is this the longest first half in the history of soccer?"

Oscar scored that goal back in June, assisted by Alvaro Carrera, and he kept it. Brooke House — whose season had been over for some time under the original schedule and who arrived short-handed — agreed to let the goal stand in order to shorten the game.

It was the season finale for both clubs.

Several of our players were not available, having already gone back to their colleges: Leonardo Andrade, Pedro Santos and Breno Correia among them. That is the reality of this league in mid-July.

Carrera settled it.

He had come into the resumption off a goal and an assist in one match and two goals and two assists against Inter Gainesville a few nights earlier. Here he took a free kick from about nineteen yards and scored, giving him a goal and an assist in a match that lasted a total of about fifty minutes across two dates.

"The 2023 Southeast Division Player of the Year strikes again."

2–0 at half time — the half that began on June 14 and ended on July 12.

The final score was 7–1. Five more goals after the interval, in a match whose first half had taken a month.
