A free kick in the ninety-third minute

The Villages SC 1–0 Palm Beach Suns

Our first ever home match in the PDL, at the Polo Club, in front of a full house — and it took until the third minute of stoppage time.

Palm Beach went close on 5 and a crucial last-minute tackle from our defence cut it out. A cross found a Buffalo head on 8 and went over. Paulo Pita cleared consecutive corners on 10, and again on 21.

32' — the ball was in the net and Paulo Vaz was offside. 35' — in on goal, and a great save sent it wide for a corner. 41' — Vaz just wide.

0–0 at half time, with chances at both ends.

And a model airplane show at the interval, because this is the Polo Club.

The second half was tighter. Palm Beach flashed one wide on 63. Pita saved a strike from outside the box on 72. We went close on 87 and were denied by a great save.

Four minutes of added time.

90+1 — a free kick, right outside the box.

90+3 — we scored it.

1–0.

First home match in the league, first home win, and a goal in the last seconds of it. The Polo Club was full.

Oh yeah!
