Important Update: Age Group Changes for 2026–27
What is changing?
Previously, players were grouped by the year they were born. Starting this season, the “cutoff” date is moving to July 31st alligning with the academic school year.
How this affects your player
Because the “line” has moved from December to July, the age groups are essentially shifting by six months.
-
New Groupings: Your player may find themselves in a different age bracket than they expected.
-
Team Shifts: Some players will move into a different group, and teammates may now be in different divisions.
A Note for Our Players & Families
We know that for many of our athletes, the best part of soccer is the friendships made on the pitch.
Parents, we encourage you to talk with your kids about this before tryouts:
-
Moving groups is based on the new calendar rules—it isn’t a reflection of a player’s talent or hard work.
-
While it’s hard to leave a current team, it’s a chance to make new friends and grow as a player in a group that matches their school-year peers.
-
Even if friends are in different age groups, they are ALL still part of Brave!
